Spine Company Plans to Focus on Early Intervention Treatments for the Spine

Austin, TX - October 4, 2005

Path4, a management-centric venture capital company focused on the musculoskeletal medical device market, announced today the unveiling of Spinal Restoration, Inc., a company that has been staffed and actively building strategic business relationships, securing intellectual property, and developing technology since last year. Path4 Ventures and Austin Ventures have jointly invested to create this new company that will introduce new treatments to back pain sufferers.

The company is managed by a team of seasoned executives with extensive musculoskeletal experience who have partnered with a well-respected lead clinician to complete a promising pilot study of a novel, non-surgical biologic treatment for back pain. The company sees great potential for its products which fill a gap in the treatment options for a surge of aging American “baby boomers” demanding creative, successful, outpatient treatment for spinal disorders.

Nearly 50% of the American adult population experiences low back pain each year. Fortunately, 90% of these cases resolve themselves within a few weeks but 10%, or 10 million people, experience chronic pain which lasts longer than twelve weeks. When rest, physical therapy, and pain medications are no longer effective treatments for these patients they are left with few real options other than surgical intervention.
